Will it be reported by any of the Source Agencies that the federal government resumes garnishing the wages of borrowers in default on federal student loans before Jul 1, 2027?
If the federal government resumes garnishing the wages of borrowers in default on federal student loans after Issuance and before Jul 1, 2027, then the market resolves to Yes. Secondary rules: Only reporting from any of the Source Agencies qualifies for the purposes of this market. Reports that merely reference prior publications (from before Issuance) do not qualify. Republishing of content originally produced by other sources (e.g., wire services) only qualifies if the content is hosted on the outlet's official platform and the outlet is clearly identified as the publishing entity. The federal government means the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, or a collector acting for either. Garnishing wages means a wage withholding order is issued to a borrower's employer, or wages are actually withheld, to collect a defaulted federal student loan. Garnishment by FFEL guaranty agencies, states or private lenders is outside this market. The following do NOT satisfy the Payout Criterion: Notices of intent to garnish wages, or hearings on them, without a withholding order issued to an employer An announcement, plan or schedule that garnishment will or may restart on a future date, including the hiring of collection contractors Treasury offset of tax refunds, Social Security, federal salaries or other federal payments Early close condition: This market will close and expire early if the event occurs.
