Will Venezuela's National Assembly name new Supreme Court justices before Jan 1, 2027?
If Venezuela agrees to or announces the completed designation, by a plenary vote of its National Assembly, of at least one new principal justice (magistrado principal) of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice before Jan 1, 2027, then the market resolves to Yes. Secondary rules: A new principal justice is a person who is not a principal justice (magistrado principal) of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice as of Issuance. The National Assembly's plenary vote designating them qualifies; they need not have been sworn in. The following do NOT count: The designation of only alternate justices (magistrados suplentes) A list of candidates from the Judicial Nominations Committee or the Citizen Power An announcement that the vote will be held on a future date, including a scheduled plenary session The re-designation of a sitting principal justice An agreement or announcement qualifies if it involves any of the following: Formal signing of treaties Parliamentary approval with binding effect Official ratification Formal commitment by the head of state/government with constitutional authority Official statements by authorized ministers Official press releases Formal declarations during government proceedings Official statements to international bodies Phased implementation announcements and multi-party agreements where the country is a signatory also qualify. The following do NOT qualify: Preliminary discussions Conditional agreements contingent on circumstances Opposition party statements Leaked documents Think-tank recommendations General aspirations without specific commitment Draft legislation without approval Regional actions (unless specified) Early close condition: This market will close and expire early if the event described in the Payout Criterion occurs.
