About This Event
This market will resolve according to the party of the candidate who wins the WI-06 congressional district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections. The midterm elections will take place on November 3, 2026. A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).

Current Market Outlook
Polymarket traders put the Republican Party's chances of holding Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District at 82% for the 2026 midterms. That's a strong favorite, but the 18% gap leaves room for a Democratic upset. The market has seen only $17K in volume across two contracts, so thin liquidity means the price is more of a directional signal than a finely calibrated probability.
WI-06 is a reliably red seat. The Cook Political Report rates it as Solid Republican, and Glenn Grothman has held it since 2015, winning by double digits in each cycle. Donald Trump carried the district by 15 points in 2024. An 82% price reflects that structural advantage, not any specific uncertainty about the race itself.
Key Factors Driving the Odds
The district's geography is the first factor. WI-06 covers the Fox Valley and parts of the Milwaukee suburbs, an area that has shifted rightward over the past decade. The 2024 election showed Republican strength in working-class exurbs, and that trend isn't reversing quickly.
Second, the national environment favors the GOP. The 2026 midterms are still 18 months out, but the incumbent party historically loses seats. Democrats need a wave to flip a district this red, and there's no evidence of one forming yet. A 2025 Marquette Law School poll found Wisconsin voters split nearly evenly on party preference, which isn't enough for a Democratic pickup in WI-06.
Third, Grothman's incumbency matters. He won 2024 with 62% of the vote. Challengers rarely unseat a well-funded incumbent in a safe district without a scandal or a national wave, neither of which is visible.
What Could Change These Odds
The 2026 election is 75 days away at resolution, but the actual vote is November 3, 2026. A few scenarios could shift the 82% price. If Democrats recruit a strong local candidate with serious fundraising, the market might drift to 75%. A national scandal involving Grothman or a broader GOP collapse in Wisconsin could push it lower.
The bigger swing factor is the political climate between now and November 2026. If Republicans control both chambers and the White House and the economy sours, midterm backlash could make this district competitive. That's the 18% tail risk the market is pricing, and it's not unreasonable. But barring something dramatic, this seat stays red.

Overview
Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District (WI-06) is a U.S. House of Representatives seat that will be contested in the 2026 midterm elections on November 4, 2026. The district covers a large portion of east-central Wisconsin, including the cities of Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, and Manitowoc, and stretches from the Fox Valley to the shores of Lake Michigan. The current representative is Republican Glenn Grothman, who has held the seat since 2015. The outcome of the 2026 race will determine which party controls this seat, which is part of the broader battle for the U.S. House majority. The 2026 midterms occur in the second year of President Donald Trump's second term, a context that historically favors the opposition party. In the 2022 midterms, Republicans narrowly won the House, but in 2026, Democrats are hoping to flip seats like WI-06, while Republicans aim to hold their majority. The political landscape in Wisconsin has become increasingly competitive at the statewide level, with recent elections for governor, U.S. Senate, and president decided by narrow margins. However, WI-06 itself has been a reliably Republican district, with a Cook Partisan Voting Index (PVI) of R+7, meaning it votes about 7 points more Republican than the national average. Interest in this market stems from its role in the national fight for control of the House. With a slim Republican majority in the 119th Congress, every seat matters. WI-06 is one of several districts that could be competitive if national trends favor Democrats, but its conservative lean makes it a long shot for a flip. The market also attracts attention because of the potential for primary challenges, candidate recruitment, and the influence of state and national political dynamics. As of early 2025, no major candidates have officially declared for the 2026 race, but speculation is already underway, particularly about whether Grothman will seek re-election or retire, which could open the seat to a more competitive race.
Historical Context
Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District has a long history of Republican representation. Since 1993, the seat has been held by Republicans, with Tom Petri serving from 1979 to 2015, followed by Glenn Grothman. Petri was a moderate Republican, while Grothman is more conservative, reflecting a rightward shift in the district. The district's boundaries were redrawn after the 2020 census, and the current map, which took effect in 2022, retains a similar partisan lean, with a PVI of R+7. In the 2022 midterm, Grothman won re-election with 70.2% of the vote against a little-known Democratic challenger, reflecting the district's strong Republican tilt. In 2024, he ran unopposed in the general election, a rarity that underscores the lack of Democratic investment in the district. However, statewide Wisconsin elections have been close: Trump won the state in 2016 and 2024, but Democrats won the gubernatorial race in 2018 and 2022, and Senator Baldwin won re-election in 2024 by a narrow margin. This divergence suggests that while WI-06 is solidly Republican, national swings could make it more competitive in a favorable Democratic year. The 2026 midterm will be the first time this seat is contested under the current district lines in a non-presidential year. Historically, midterm elections often see a backlash against the sitting president's party, which could narrow the Republican advantage. However, the district's conservative DNA makes a flip unlikely unless there is a major national wave or a scandal involving the Republican nominee.
Why It Matters
The outcome in WI-06 is one piece of the larger puzzle of control of the U.S. House of Representatives. With Republicans holding a slim majority in the 119th Congress, a few seat losses could flip the chamber to Democrats. While WI-06 is not a top-tier target, it is part of the Republicans' defensive map, and a surprise loss would be a significant blow. Conversely, if Democrats can force the NRCC to spend resources here, it could divert attention from more vulnerable seats. Beyond the immediate political calculus, the race will reflect broader trends in rural and exurban America. WI-06 is a mix of manufacturing communities, farmland, and small cities. How these voters respond to the 2026 political climate will offer insights into the durability of the Trump coalition and the appeal of Democratic messaging on economic issues. The result could also influence future redistricting and campaign strategies, as both parties gauge the competitiveness of similar districts nationwide.
