About This Event

The 2026 PA-17 House election is currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026. This market will resolve according to the margin of victory between the top two candidates in the specified election. The "margin of victory" is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates. Percentages of the valid votes received by each candidate will be determined by dividing the total number of valid votes each of the top two candidates receives by the sum of all valid votes cast in the election. For purposes of this market, candidates nominated by the Democratic & Republican Parties will represent the options for "Democrat" and "Republican," respectively. Independent candidates will not represent options for either party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher margin bracket. If two or more candidates tie for the most valid votes in this election, and the tie is between two candidates listed, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the candidate whose ballot-listed last name comes first in alphabetical order. If the tie is between a listed candidate and an unlisted candidate, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the listed candidate. If the tie is between two or more unlisted candidates, this market will resolve to "Other." If the listed candidate is represented in this market group as "Republican" or "Democrat" their ballot-listed last name will still be used for tiebreaking. This market will resolve based on the official vote count once the count has been made official. If the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". If a recount is initiated before the vote total has been made official, the market will remain open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official. The primary resolution source for this market will be the official results of the 2026 PA-17 House election as published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying the results of the election; however, an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

This analysis is awaiting a background update, so its prices may be older than the odds above.

What the contract measures

This event asks how the 2026 PA-17 House election margin will fall. The margin is defined as "the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates" [1]. Each bracket is a separate Yes or No contract. The provider states that "If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher margin bracket" [1].

The rules also cover situations beyond the vote count. If the results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1]. A recount initiated before certification keeps the market open until it is completed [1]. Ties follow a separate tiebreaking process [1]. The event also includes a Republican winner contract, which asks a different question from the margin brackets and should be read separately.

Reading the snapshot

The saved data was observed on October 16, 2026 at 00:00 UTC and retrieved shortly after [1]. It is a record of that moment, not a live reading. The eight markets in this sample are all included, so the saved sample is complete for this provider event [1].

Among the Democratic margin brackets, the highest quoted Yes price is 0.265 for a 15% to 20% margin, followed by 0.25 for 20% to 25% and 0.2 for 10% to 15% [1]. The lowest is 0.039 for 0% to 5% [1]. The Republican winner contract is quoted at Yes 0.006 [1]. These are quoted snapshot prices, not executable quotes or verified probabilities.

The Yes prices for the seven Democratic margin brackets add to about 1.12 in this snapshot. Because these prices do not sum to 1, they should not be read as a complete probability distribution. The "Other" outcome is not among the saved markets.

Every listed contract has the same end time of 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. The provider also says the election is "currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026" [1]. That is an expectation in the contract text, not a confirmed event date.

What remains uncertain

This evidence does not explain why any price is where it is, and it contains no trader counts or current news. Volume figures are not included in this analysis and would not measure liquidity. The sample covers only the saved Polymarket event, so it does not establish that every possible real-world outcome is listed [1]. Comparing these prices with contracts on other platforms would require matching the exact wording, tiebreak rules, and close times, which this evidence does not provide.

Overview

This PredictPedia entry covers a Polymarket event titled "PA-17 House Election Margin of Victory" for the 2026 U.S. House election in Pennsylvania's 17th district. The provider describes the 2026 PA-17 House election as "currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026" [1], and the Wikipedia pages on the 2026 Pennsylvania and U.S. House elections in Pennsylvania likewise state that the elections will be held on November 3, 2026 [2][3]. The provider's wording is "currently expected," so the date should be read as the scheduled election day rather than a confirmed result or an outcome that has already occurred. The contract does not ask who wins the seat in the abstract. It measures the margin of victory, which the provider defines as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates. Each percentage is calculated by dividing a candidate's valid votes by the total valid votes cast in the election [1]. Under this definition, a margin of 15 percent could describe a 55 percent to 40 percent result, because the gap between the top two candidates is what counts [1]. This is a calculation the contract rules spell out, not a forecast of the result. The market's brackets are framed around the Democratic and Republican party nominees. The provider states that candidates nominated by the Democratic and Republican parties represent the "Democrat" and "Republican" options, and that independent candidates do not represent either option [1]. If a named nominee is replaced before election day, the contract name is updated and the market resolves based on the replacement nominee [1]. The names in the contract are included for convenience of traders [1]. The rules also address edge cases. If a reported margin falls exactly between two brackets, the market resolves to the higher margin bracket [1]. A tie for the most valid votes is handled through ballot-listed last names and bracket rules, with a separate outcome for ties between unlisted candidates [1]. Resolution is tied to the official vote count once it is certified, and an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used [1]. If a recount begins before the total is official, the market stays open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official [1]. The provider lists an end time of 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. That is the listed end time of the market, not a statement that results will be certified by then. The rules separately state that if results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1]. The saved provider event includes eight Polymarket contracts: several Democratic margin brackets from 0 to 5 percent through 30 percent or more, plus a contract on whether the Republican candidate wins [1]. The provider's coverage data indicates all saved markets for this event are included, but that does not establish that the provider lists every possible outcome [1]. Prices shown elsewhere on this page are snapshots and are not executable quotes or verified probabilities.

Historical Context

The 2026 elections are scheduled for November 3, 2026 [3]. For the Pennsylvania House elections, the sources note that voters will elect members in all 203 of the state's legislative districts to serve two-year terms [2]. For the U.S. House contests in Pennsylvania, the sources note that 17 representatives are being elected, one from each congressional district, and that primary elections took place on May 19, 2026 [3]. The supplied sources do not provide further historical background on the PA-17 district.

Why It Matters

The contract measures how decisively the top two candidates separate in the certified vote count, expressed as a percentage-point gap [1]. Because the calculation uses shares of valid votes rather than raw totals, the result depends on how the official count is reported and certified [1]. Traders following the market are therefore tracking the margin specifically, not simply which party wins. The rules' handling of ties, bracket boundaries, recounts, and the June 30, 2027 fallback shows that the contract's resolution depends on the official certified count and specific procedural rules [1].

Snapshot context

The latest published provider snapshot for this topic was observed on 2026-10-16 at 00:00 UTC. It contains listings from Polymarket. Market descriptions and listed closing times define the contracts; they do not establish that the real-world outcome has occurred. This article does not include a separately verified news update. Frequently Asked Questions

How is the margin of victory calculated in this market?

The provider defines the margin as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates, with each percentage found by dividing a candidate's valid votes by the total valid votes cast [1].

Do independent candidates count as options in these contracts?

No. The provider states that independent candidates will not represent options for either party, and that the options are "Democrat" and "Republican" based on nominees of those parties [1].

What happens if a margin falls exactly on the boundary between two brackets?

The provider states that the market resolves to the higher margin bracket in that case [1].

When does the market resolve?

The market resolves based on the official vote count once it has been made official [1]. The provider lists an end time of 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z, but also says that if results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1].

What happens if a recount is requested?

If a recount is initiated before the vote total has been made official, the market remains open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official [1].
