About This Event
This market will resolve to "Up" if the reference price for US Dollar / South African Rand (USD/ZAR) on October 21, 2026 is higher than the reference price for the most recent prior reference day. This market will resolve to "Down" if it is lower. If the two reference prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. For each day, the reference price is the "Close" value of the Pyth 1-minute candle timestamped 4:59 PM ET (covering 4:59:00–4:59:59 PM ET) on that date. Reference prices will be used exactly as published by Pyth, without rounding. A "reference day" is any day on which the applicable trading session for US Dollar / South African Rand (USD/ZAR), per the trading-hours schedule listed on Pyth, includes 4:59 PM ET. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its reference price, since weekend sessions (where applicable) do not include a 4:59 PM ET close; if that Friday were a market holiday, it would refer to the next most recent prior reference day. All times are Eastern Time, and each day refers to the Eastern Time calendar date. If no valid Pyth Close value exists for the 4:59 PM ET 1-minute candle on any day for which a reference price is being determined — including October 21, 2026 itself, such as on a day with shortened trading hours — the last valid Pyth price published prior to 5:00 PM ET on that date will be used as that day's reference price. If no valid Pyth price is published at all on the prior reference day — due to a system outage, data failure, or other technical disruption — the next most recent prior reference day on which a valid Pyth price was published will be used in its place. If no valid Pyth price is published at all on October 21, 2026, or if October 21, 2026 is not a trading day under the applicable trading-hours schedule as listed on Pyth, this market will resolve 50-50. The resolution source for this market is Pyth, specifically the "Close" value of the relevant 1-minute candle for US Dollar / South African Rand (USD/ZAR) available at https://pythdata.app/explore/FX.USD%2FZAR. Historical 1-minute candles may be accessed by appending a Unix timestamp (seconds) to the Pyth chart URL using the "t=" parameter.

What the contract measures
This contract asks whether the USD/ZAR reference price on October 21, 2026 will be higher than the reference price for the most recent prior reference day. The rule states that the market "will resolve to "Up" if the reference price for US Dollar / South African Rand (USD/ZAR) on October 21, 2026 is higher than the reference price for the most recent prior reference day" [1]. Each reference price is the "Close" value of the Pyth 1-minute candle timestamped 4:59 PM ET on that date, used "exactly as published by Pyth, without rounding" [1]. If the two prices are exactly equal, the market resolves 50-50 [1]. The listed end time is 2026-10-21T21:00:00.000Z [1]. The reference candle is defined in Eastern Time, while the listed end time is in UTC, so readers should rely on the rule text for the measurement window rather than on the end time alone.
Reading the snapshot
The saved record was observed at 2026-10-22T00:00:05.980Z and retrieved at 2026-10-22T03:07:06.347Z [1]. Both timestamps fall after the listed end time. The recorded provider status is "active" [1], but the record includes no resolution outcome, so it cannot show which side resolved.
The quoted prices are Up 0.0005 and Down 0.9995 [1]. These are snapshot prices from one platform for one binary market. They are not executable quotes or verified probabilities, and the evidence does not include volume or liquidity data. The coverage record shows one market, all included, with no partial sample [1]. The sample warning notes that this does not establish that the provider lists every possible outcome [1].
What remains uncertain
The evidence does not include the Pyth candle values, the prior reference day's price, or any resolution result, so the direction of the USD/ZAR move cannot be confirmed from this record. The snapshot does not explain why the prices were where they were, and it does not show how many traders are involved.
Only one platform appears here, so there is no cross-platform comparison. Any price difference with a different contract would not by itself indicate an opportunity, particularly if the wording, reference times, or close times differ. Readers should also note the rule's fallback provisions, including the use of the last valid price before 5:00 PM ET and the 50-50 outcomes, which affect how the final result is determined [1].

Saved Oct 22, 2026 UTCOverview
This contract is a daily directional market on the US dollar against the South African rand (USD/ZAR). It asks whether the reference price for USD/ZAR on October 21, 2026 will be higher than the reference price for the most recent prior reference day [1]. The rand is the official currency of South Africa and is subdivided into 100 cents [2]. The contract resolves to "Up" if the October 21 reference price is higher than the prior reference price, "Down" if it is lower, and 50-50 if the two are exactly equal [1]. Each day's reference price is the "Close" value of the Pyth 1-minute candle timestamped 4:59 PM ET, covering 4:59:00 to 4:59:59 PM ET on that date, used exactly as Pyth publishes it without rounding [1]. A reference day is any day whose trading session, under the trading-hours schedule listed on Pyth, includes 4:59 PM ET. Because weekend sessions do not include that time, a Monday market ordinarily refers to the previous Friday [1]. The rules also set fallbacks: if no valid 4:59 PM ET candle exists, the last valid Pyth price published before 5:00 PM ET is used, and if no valid price is published on the prior reference day because of an outage or data failure, the next most recent prior reference day with a valid price is used [1]. If no valid Pyth price is published at all on October 21, 2026, or if that date is not a trading day under the Pyth schedule, the market resolves 50-50 [1]. The evidence records this contract as active, with a listed end time of 2026-10-21T21:00:00.000Z, and the snapshot was taken after that listed time [1]. The evidence does not show the resolved outcome, so this article does not state one.
Why It Matters
The contract measures the direction of USD/ZAR between two daily reference points rather than a specific exchange rate level. Its rules tie the outcome to a single Pyth 1-minute candle close at 4:59 PM ET on each reference day, so the result depends on that published value and the fallback rules rather than on a broader daily summary [1]. Because the rand is the currency being priced against the dollar [2], the contract is a short-horizon question about that currency pair.

Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as the reference price?
The reference price is the "Close" value of the Pyth 1-minute candle timestamped 4:59 PM ET on the relevant date, used as published without rounding [1].
What happens if the two reference prices are equal?
The market resolves 50-50 if the two reference prices are exactly equal [1].
Why might the prior reference day not be the day before October 21?
A reference day is any day whose Pyth trading session includes 4:59 PM ET. Weekend sessions where applicable do not include that time, so the prior reference day can be an earlier trading day, and if it is a market holiday the next most recent prior reference day is used [1].
What happens if Pyth publishes no valid price?
If no valid Pyth price exists for the 4:59 PM ET candle, the last valid price published before 5:00 PM ET on that date is used. If no valid price is published on October 21, 2026, or if that date is not a trading day under the Pyth schedule, the market resolves 50-50 [1].
