About This Event

This market will resolve to "Up" if the reference price for US Dollar / South Korean Won (USD/KRW) on October 21, 2026 is higher than the reference price for the most recent prior reference day. This market will resolve to "Down" if it is lower. If the two reference prices are exactly equal, this market will resolve 50-50. For each day, the reference price is the "Close" value of the Pyth 1-minute candle timestamped 4:59 PM ET (covering 4:59:00–4:59:59 PM ET) on that date. Reference prices will be used exactly as published by Pyth, without rounding. A "reference day" is any day on which the applicable trading session for US Dollar / South Korean Won (USD/KRW), per the trading-hours schedule listed on Pyth, includes 4:59 PM ET. E.g., ordinarily, a market on Monday would refer to the previous Friday for its reference price, since weekend sessions (where applicable) do not include a 4:59 PM ET close; if that Friday were a market holiday, it would refer to the next most recent prior reference day. All times are Eastern Time, and each day refers to the Eastern Time calendar date. If no valid Pyth Close value exists for the 4:59 PM ET 1-minute candle on any day for which a reference price is being determined — including October 21, 2026 itself, such as on a day with shortened trading hours — the last valid Pyth price published prior to 5:00 PM ET on that date will be used as that day's reference price. If no valid Pyth price is published at all on the prior reference day — due to a system outage, data failure, or other technical disruption — the next most recent prior reference day on which a valid Pyth price was published will be used in its place. If no valid Pyth price is published at all on October 21, 2026, or if October 21, 2026 is not a trading day under the applicable trading-hours schedule as listed on Pyth, this market will resolve 50-50. The resolution source for this market is Pyth, specifically the "Close" value of the relevant 1-minute candle for US Dollar / South Korean Won (USD/KRW) available at https://pythdata.app/explore/FX.USD%2FKRW. Historical 1-minute candles may be accessed by appending a Unix timestamp (seconds) to the Pyth chart URL using the "t=" parameter.

What the contract measures

The contract asks whether the USD/KRW exchange rate will be higher on October 21, 2026 than on the most recent prior reference day. The rule states that the market "will resolve to "Up" if the reference price for US Dollar / South Korean Won (USD/KRW) on October 21, 2026 is higher than the reference price for the most recent prior reference day" [1]. A "Down" resolution applies if the price is lower, and an exact tie resolves 50-50 [1].

The reference price is the Pyth 1-minute candle "Close" timestamped 4:59 PM ET, and all times are Eastern Time [1]. The rules also cover edge cases, including a fallback to the last valid Pyth price published before 5:00 PM ET when the 4:59 PM candle is missing [1]. The listed end time is 2026-10-21T21:00:00.000Z [1]. Because the rule relies on a specific candle and fallback logic, a reader should check the full wording rather than rely on the title alone.

Reading the snapshot

The saved snapshot was observed at 2026-10-22T00:00:05.980Z and retrieved at 2026-10-22T02:39:17.060Z [1]. At observation, the quoted prices were 0.9995 for "Up" and 0.0005 for "Down" [1]. These are snapshot prices from one provider. They are not executable quotes, and they should not be read as verified probabilities.

The sample covers one Polymarket market, and the coverage record shows one market included, with no partial sample flag [1]. Because there is only one outcome pair in this sample, no comparison across platforms or contracts is possible. The provider reported the market as active at the time of the snapshot [1].

Volume is not included in the evidence for this snapshot, so the data does not show liquidity or how many traders are involved.

What remains uncertain

The evidence does not include the reference prices for either day, so it does not establish the outcome. It also does not show a settlement result or any resolution notice. Because the snapshot predates the retrieval time, it should not be read as a current market state.

Overview

This market asks whether the US Dollar to South Korean Won (USD/KRW) exchange rate will be higher or lower on October 21, 2026, measured against the prior reference day. Under the contract rules, the market resolves "Up" if the reference price on October 21, 2026 is higher than the reference price for the most recent prior reference day, and "Down" if it is lower [1]. If the two reference prices are exactly equal, the market resolves 50-50 [1]. The reference price for each day is the "Close" value of the Pyth 1-minute candle timestamped 4:59 PM ET, and the contract says prices are used exactly as Pyth publishes them, without rounding [1]. A reference day is any day whose trading session, under the trading-hours schedule listed on Pyth, includes 4:59 PM ET. Because weekend sessions normally do not include that time, a Monday market would ordinarily refer back to the previous Friday [1]. The rules also set fallbacks. If no valid 4:59 PM ET candle exists on a reference day, the last valid Pyth price published before 5:00 PM ET on that date is used instead. If no valid price is published on the prior reference day because of an outage or data failure, the next most recent prior reference day with a valid price is used [1]. The contract resolves 50-50 if no valid Pyth price is published at all on October 21, 2026, or if that date is not a trading day under the listed schedule [1]. The listed end time in the contract is 21:00 UTC on October 21, 2026 [1]. That is a date written into the contract rules and a listed closing time. It is not a separate announced event, and it does not by itself show how the market resolved. The provider data in this record was observed shortly after midnight UTC on October 22, 2026, and the market was listed as active at that observation [1]. The record does not include a final resolution outcome.

Historical Context

South Korea is described as having a highly developed mixed economy. Its nominal GDP was reported as ₩2.56 quadrillion, and it was described as the 4th largest economy in Asia and the 13th largest in the world as of 2025 [2]. The same background source describes the country's rapid development from an underdeveloped nation to a developed, high-income country within a few decades, a period described as the Miracle on the Han River, and notes its membership in the OECD and the G20 [2]. This background describes the economy in general and does not explain short-term movements in the exchange rate.

Why It Matters

The contract measures the direction of the USD/KRW exchange rate between two specific reference times on consecutive reference days. It does not measure the rate at any other time of day. Because the reference price is a single one-minute candle at 4:59 PM ET, the outcome depends on Pyth's published value at that moment, and the contract includes fallback rules for missing data [1]. Readers should also note that the contract includes a 50-50 outcome for an exact tie and for certain missing-data cases [1]. The contract text is the authority on how a result is determined.
