About This Event

The 2026 MN-02 House election is currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026. This market will resolve according to the margin of victory between the top two candidates in the specified election. The "margin of victory" is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates. Percentages of the valid votes received by each candidate will be determined by dividing the total number of valid votes each of the top two candidates receives by the sum of all valid votes cast in the election. For purposes of this market, candidates nominated by the Democratic & Republican Parties will represent the options for "Democrat" and "Republican," respectively. Independent candidates will not represent options for either party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher margin bracket. If two or more candidates tie for the most valid votes in this election, and the tie is between two candidates listed, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the candidate whose ballot-listed last name comes first in alphabetical order. If the tie is between a listed candidate and an unlisted candidate, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the listed candidate. If the tie is between two or more unlisted candidates, this market will resolve to "Other." If the listed candidate is represented in this market group as "Republican" or "Democrat" their ballot-listed last name will still be used for tiebreaking. This market will resolve based on the official vote count once the count has been made official. If the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". If a recount is initiated before the vote total has been made official, the market will remain open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official. The primary resolution source for this market will be the official results of the 2026 MN-02 House election as published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying the results of the election; however, an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

What the contract measures

The market set is built from one Polymarket event on the 2026 MN-02 House election. Most contracts resolve on the margin of victory, defined as "the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates" [1]. Each contract covers one bracket, such as "Will the Democratic Party candidate win the 2026 MN-02 House election by 15%-20%?" The source also states that "If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher margin bracket" [1]. The Republican contract is different. It asks whether the Republican Party candidate wins the election, not what the margin will be [1].

The source expects the election "to be held on November 3, 2026," and lists the market end time as 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. The rules also say that if results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1]. That date is a fallback rule, not an announced event date.

Reading the snapshot

The provider observation time is 2026-10-16T00:00:06.034Z, and the retrieval time recorded in this package is 2026-10-16T01:18:49.761Z [1]. The prices below describe that observation only. They are not live quotes and may not be executable.

Eight of the event's contracts are included, and the coverage record marks the sample as complete for this saved event [1]. The reported Yes prices are: 0-5% Democratic margin at 0.212, 5-10% at 0.15, 10-15% at 0.165, 15-20% at 0.265, 20-25% at 0.24, 25-30% at 0.0235, 30% or more at 0.027, and a Republican win at 0.029 [1]. Because the contracts are separate, these figures should not be added together or treated as a complete distribution. Each Yes price is a snapshot for one contract, and a lower price in this list does not establish that an outcome is less likely.

Volume and trader counts are not included in this package, so no statement about liquidity or participation can be made.

What remains uncertain

The sample warning states that "This does not establish that the providers list every possible real-world outcome" [1]. The package also does not include any other platform, so no cross-platform comparison is possible. The prices do not explain why they are where they are, and no news or events outside the saved excerpt are described here. Contract wording, tiebreak rules, and the recount provision all affect resolution, so readers should check the full rules before comparing contracts.

Overview

This contract, titled MN-02 House Election Margin of Victory, asks how far apart the two leading candidates will finish in the 2026 election for Minnesota's 2nd congressional district. The source describes the 2026 MN-02 House election as "currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026" [1]. The contract does not ask who wins. It measures the gap between the top two candidates, so it resolves on a size bracket rather than a winner. Its saved market list includes brackets such as 0 to 5 percent, 5 to 10 percent, and so on up to 30 percent or more for the Democratic candidate, along with a separate market on whether the Republican candidate wins [1]. The margin is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates. Each percentage is calculated by dividing a candidate's valid votes by the total valid votes cast in the election [1]. Because the calculation uses valid votes, the measure depends on the official count rather than on unofficial tallies or reported totals that have not been certified. For this contract, candidates nominated by the Democratic and Republican Parties represent the "Democrat" and "Republican" options. Independent candidates do not represent either option [1]. If a named nominee is replaced before election day, the contract name is updated and the market resolves based on the replacement nominee [1]. The rules also address boundary and tie cases. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, the market resolves to the higher margin bracket [1]. If two or more candidates tie for the most valid votes, the rules use ballot-listed last names in alphabetical order to choose the bracket in certain cases, and tied unlisted candidates lead to the "Other" outcome [1]. Resolution depends on the official vote count. The primary resolution source is the official results published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying the election, although an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used [1]. If a recount starts before the total is official, the market stays open until the recount finishes and the vote is certified [1]. If results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027 at 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1]. The listed end time for the contract is 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. That timestamp is when the contract closes for trading, which is distinct from the date the election is expected to occur and from the date results become official.

Historical Context

The supplied background sources cover other elections rather than the MN-02 race itself. One describes the 2024 Minnesota House of Representatives election, held November 5, 2024 to elect members to the 94th Minnesota Legislature, with primaries on August 13, 2024 [2]. Another describes the 2018 United States House of Representatives elections, held November 6, 2018, in which voters chose representatives from all 435 congressional districts [3]. Neither source provides results or history specific to the 2nd congressional district, so they offer only general context for how these elections are organized.

Why It Matters

The contract measures how competitive the MN-02 House race is expected to be once results are certified. A bracket market on the Democratic candidate's margin splits outcomes by size of victory, so it can reflect different expectations about the race than a simple winner market. The separate Republican market asks only whether the Republican candidate wins [1]. Because each bracket is a distinct contract, the rules on boundaries, ties, recounts and the June 30, 2027 deadline determine exactly which bracket pays out [1].

Snapshot context

The latest published provider snapshot for this topic was observed on 2026-10-16 at 00:00 UTC. It contains listings from Polymarket. It measures the margin of victory, defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates [1]. The result is then matched to a bracket.

Which candidates count as the Democratic and Republican options?

Candidates nominated by the Democratic and Republican Parties represent those options. Independent candidates do not represent either party [1].

What happens if a nominee is replaced before election day?

The name in the contract is updated, and the market resolves based on the party's replacement nominee [1].

What happens if a result falls exactly on the boundary between two brackets?

The market resolves to the higher margin bracket [1].

Which source determines the result?

The primary source is the official results of the 2026 MN-02 House election as published by the state electoral authority that certifies the results. An overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used [1].

Can a recount affect when the market resolves?

Yes. If a recount is initiated before the vote total is official, the market remains open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official [1].

What happens if the results are not known by the deadline?

If the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1].
