About This Event
The 2026 AL-06 House election is currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026. This market will resolve according to the margin of victory between the top two candidates in the specified election. The "margin of victory" is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates. Percentages of the valid votes received by each candidate will be determined by dividing the total number of valid votes each of the top two candidates receives by the sum of all valid votes cast in the election. For purposes of this market, candidates nominated by the Democratic & Republican Parties will represent the options for "Democrat" and "Republican," respectively. Independent candidates will not represent options for either party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher margin bracket. If two or more candidates tie for the most valid votes in this election, and the tie is between two candidates listed, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the candidate whose ballot-listed last name comes first in alphabetical order. If the tie is between a listed candidate and an unlisted candidate, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the listed candidate. If the tie is between two or more unlisted candidates, this market will resolve to "Other." If the listed candidate is represented in this market group as "Republican" or "Democrat" their ballot-listed last name will still be used for tiebreaking. This market will resolve based on the official vote count once the count has been made official. If the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". If a recount is initiated before the vote total has been made official, the market will remain open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official. The primary resolution source for this market will be the official results of the 2026 AL-06 House election as published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying the results of the election; however, an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

What the contract measures
The contract text defines the margin of victory as "the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates" [1]. Candidates are represented by party: "candidates nominated by the Democratic & Republican Parties will represent the options for 'Democrat' and 'Republican,' respectively" [1]. Independent candidates do not count as options for either party.
Boundary cases matter. "If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher margin bracket" [1]. Ties follow separate rules, and the market resolves to "Other" if "the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET" [1].
The saved event lists an end time of 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. The source also says the election "is currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026" [1]. The end time is a provider field and is not stated in the rules as a result announcement date. Resolution depends on the official certified count.
Reading the snapshot
The provider observation time is 2026-10-16T00:00:06.034Z, and the retrieval time is 2026-10-16T02:32:26.932Z [1]. The prices below describe that observation only. They are not executable quotes or verified probabilities.
Among the Republican margin brackets, the highest quoted Yes price is 0.255 for a 30%-35% margin. The next highest are 0.235 for 25%-30% and 0.205 for 20%-25%. The lowest is 0.042 for 45%-50%. The separate question on whether the Democratic Party candidate wins shows a Yes price of 0.005 [1].
The Yes prices for the nine Republican margin brackets add to about 1.13. Because these are quoted snapshots, that total does not show a verified distribution, and the evidence does not explain it.
Coverage is recorded as 10 of 10 markets included, with partialSample set to false [1]. The sample warning also states that the providers may not list every possible real-world outcome [1]. Prices should therefore be compared only within this event.
What remains uncertain
The evidence does not explain why prices are where they are, and it contains no news, trader counts, or liquidity measures. Volume is not reported in the supplied market rows, so no statement about depth is possible.
Differences in wording, such as "by 50% or more" versus bracketed ranges, and differences in tie or boundary rules, affect what each contract settles on. Do not compare these prices with contracts on other platforms unless their rules are checked first.

Overview
This PredictPedia entry covers the Polymarket event "AL-06 House Election Margin of Victory," which is tied to the 2026 U.S. House election in Alabama's 6th congressional district. The contract does not ask whether a particular party wins. It asks how large the gap is between the top two candidates. The rules define the margin of victory as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates, with each percentage calculated by dividing a candidate's valid votes by the total valid votes cast in the election [1]. The market uses party labels in a specific way. Candidates nominated by the Democratic and Republican Parties represent the "Democrat" and "Republican" options, and independent candidates do not count as either party [1]. The rules say candidates may be named for the convenience of traders, and that if a named candidate is replaced as a party's nominee before election day, the contract name will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee [1]. The contract is divided into margin brackets. The saved event includes contracts on ranges such as 0% to 10%, 10% to 20%, and 50% or more for a Republican win, along with a separate contract on whether the Democratic Party candidate wins [1]. The rules state that if a reported value falls exactly between two brackets, the market resolves to the higher margin bracket [1]. Resolution depends on official results. The primary source is the official count of the 2026 AL-06 House election as published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying results, although an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used [1]. If a recount starts before the total becomes official, the market stays open until the recount finishes and the vote is certified [1]. If the results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027 at 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1]. The contract rules say the election is currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026, and the listed end time is November 4, 2026 at 04:59 UTC [1]. That expected date comes from the contract rules and is not a separate confirmation of the schedule. Tie-breaking follows specific rules. If two listed candidates tie for the most valid votes, the market resolves to the lowest margin bracket for the candidate whose ballot-listed last name comes first alphabetically. If a listed candidate ties with an unlisted candidate, the market resolves to the lowest bracket for the listed candidate. If two or more unlisted candidates tie, the market resolves to "Other" [1].
Historical Context
The supplied sources do not provide history specific to Alabama's 6th district or its 2026 contest. They do offer general background on how U.S. elections of this type are reported. The 2018 United States House elections were held on November 6, 2018 and chose representatives from all 435 congressional districts [2]. In the 2024 Montana gubernatorial election, the winning incumbent was reported as having won by a 20% margin, larger than his 13% margin in 2020 [3]. These examples show that margins are reported as percentage differences between candidates, but they do not describe the AL-06 race.
Why It Matters
The contract measures competitiveness in a specific way. Rather than predicting only the winner, it sorts the outcome into bands based on the gap between the top two candidates' shares of valid votes [1]. This makes the contract sensitive to the size of the expected result, not just its direction. Because the rules compare percentages of valid votes, the definition excludes votes that are not valid under the rules, and it treats independent candidates separately from the two party options [1]. The rules also set how the outcome is determined. Brackets are fixed, boundary values go to the higher bracket, and ties are resolved by ballot order and listed status [1]. Those details determine how a result is classified once the official count is available, so traders reading the contract should follow the stated definitions rather than general impressions of the race.
