About This Event
The 2026 Michigan Senate election is currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026. This market will resolve according to the margin of victory between the top two candidates in the specified election. The "margin of victory" is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates. Percentages of the valid votes received by each candidate will be determined by dividing the total number of valid votes each of the top two candidates receives by the sum of all valid votes cast in the election. For purposes of this market, candidates nominated by the Democratic & Republican Parties will represent the options for "Democrat" and "Republican," respectively. Independent candidates will not represent options for either party. The candidates may be named in the contract for the convenience of traders. In the event that any named candidate is replaced as the nominee of their respective party prior to election day, the name in the contract will be updated and the market will resolve based on the replacement nominee of the party. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher margin bracket. If two or more candidates tie for the most valid votes in this election, and the tie is between two candidates listed, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the candidate whose ballot-listed last name comes first in alphabetical order. If the tie is between a listed candidate and an unlisted candidate, this market will resolve to the lowest margin bracket for the listed candidate. If the tie is between two or more unlisted candidates, this market will resolve to "Other." If the listed candidate is represented in this market group as "Republican" or "Democrat" their ballot-listed last name will still be used for tiebreaking. This market will resolve based on the official vote count once the count has been made official. If the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". If a recount is initiated before the vote total has been made official, the market will remain open until the recount is completed and the vote is made official. The primary resolution source for this market will be the official results of the 2026 Michigan Senate election as published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying the results of the election; however, an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

What the contract measures
This Polymarket event asks about the margin of victory in the 2026 Michigan Senate election. The margin is the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates [1]. Party nominees represent the "Democrat" and "Republican" options, and independent candidates do not count for either party [1].
The contract resolves on the official vote count once it is made official [1]. If a reported value falls exactly between two brackets, it resolves to the higher margin bracket [1]. If results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1]. That date is a resolution deadline in the rules, not an announced event date.
Reading the snapshot
The prices were observed at 2026-10-19T06:00:06Z and retrieved at 2026-10-19T08:27:09Z [1]. They are past snapshot prices, not live quotes. The listed end time is 2026-11-04T04:59:00Z [1].
Ten brackets are included, covering Democratic and Republican margins in 3-point steps up to 12 points, plus a "12% or more" bracket for each party [1]. Among these, the Yes price for the Democratic 3% to 6% bracket is 0.25, and the Democratic 0% to 3% bracket is 0.235 [1]. The Republican 0% to 3% bracket is 0.16, and the Republican 3% to 6% bracket is 0.035 [1]. The "12% or more" brackets are 0.0685 for Democrats and 0.0015 for Republicans [1].
These are snapshot prices, not executable quotes or verified probabilities. Each bracket is a separate contract with its own wording, so read each bracket against its own rule text.
What remains uncertain
All ten saved markets for this event are included, and the sample is not marked as partial [1]. The source also states that this does not establish that the providers list every possible real-world outcome [1]. The rules mention an "Other" result for unresolved elections, but no separate "Other" contract appears in this snapshot, so no price can be given for it. An omitted outcome should not be assumed to be less likely.
The snapshot does not explain why prices are where they are. It contains no trader count, no volume data, and no recent news. Prices may have changed since the observation time.

Saved Oct 19, 2026 UTCOverview
The Michigan Senate Election Margin of Victory contract is a Polymarket event about how far apart the top two candidates finish in the 2026 Michigan Senate election. The election is currently expected to be held on November 3, 2026 [1][2]. The contract does not ask simply who wins. It asks which margin bracket the result falls into, using the gap between the two leading candidates' shares of valid votes [1]. The Wikipedia article on the race describes it as an election to choose a member of the United States Senate for Michigan. It names Democratic former Wayne County health director Abdul El-Sayed and Republican former congressman Mike Rogers as the nominees for their parties, and notes that Democratic incumbent Gary Peters is not seeking a third term [2]. That article is a secondary reference, so the nominee details should be read as the article's description at the time it was retrieved, not as a live confirmation of the current field. The contract's brackets are organized by party. Each bracket asks whether the Democratic or Republican candidate will win by a stated range of percentage points, such as 0% to 3%, 3% to 6%, or 12% or more [1]. Because each bracket is a separate contract, a trader can look at several outcomes in the same event. The saved event in this record contains ten markets, all of which are included in the sample [1]. The margin is defined as the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes received by the first-place and second-place candidates. Each percentage is calculated by dividing a candidate's valid votes by the total valid votes cast in the election [1]. Votes that are not valid do not enter the calculation, which matters when comparing the margin to raw vote totals.
Historical Context
Michigan's 2026 race sits within a regular cycle of Senate elections. The 2024 United States Senate elections were held on November 5, 2024, with regularly scheduled elections for 33 of the 100 seats and special elections in California and Nebraska. Senators serve six-year terms in three staggered classes, so a different class is elected every two years [3]. The 2024 cycle is background for how the Senate is elected generally. It is not a source for the 2026 Michigan result, and the sources supplied for this topic do not describe how the Michigan race has developed.
Why It Matters
The contract measures the size of the victory, not only the winner. That makes it a question about competitiveness: a narrow result and a wide one fall into different brackets even if the same party wins [1]. The resolution rules are specific. The market resolves according to the official vote count once it has been made official, and the primary resolution source is the official results published by the state electoral authority that certifies the election. Credible reporting may also be used if there is an overwhelming consensus [1]. If a recount is started before the total becomes official, the market stays open until the recount is completed and the vote is certified [1]. Ties and boundary values also have rules. If a reported margin falls exactly between two brackets, the contract resolves to the higher margin bracket [1]. If two candidates tie for the most votes, the contract uses a tiebreak based on ballot-listed last names. If the tie is between a listed candidate and an unlisted candidate, the listed candidate's bracket applies. If two or more unlisted candidates tie, the result is "Other" [1]. The listed end time for the event is 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. That is the contract's closing time, not the date of the election or the date the result is resolved. Resolution depends on certified results, and the contract provides that if the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1].
Snapshot context

Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a Democratic or Republican candidate in this contract?
The contract states that candidates nominated by the Democratic and Republican Parties represent the "Democrat" and "Republican" options. Independent candidates do not represent either option [1].
What happens if a named candidate is replaced before election day?
If a named candidate is replaced as the party's nominee before election day, the contract name is updated and the market resolves based on the replacement nominee [1].
How is the margin of victory calculated?
The margin is the absolute difference between the percentages of valid votes won by the first-place and second-place candidates. Each percentage is the candidate's valid votes divided by the total valid votes cast [1].
What happens if a margin falls exactly on the boundary between two brackets?
The contract resolves to the higher margin bracket in that case [1].
What happens if the result is not known by June 30, 2027?
If the election results are not known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to "Other" [1].
Does a contract price show the likelihood of an outcome?
A price is a snapshot of a contract's market level at a point in time. It is not an executable quote, and it is not a verified probability of the outcome. A difference between prices on related contracts does not by itself show a trading opportunity.
