About This Event

This market will resolve to “Yes” if Iran targets Iraq through a qualifying military action between market creation and the listed date, Arabia Standard Time (AST). Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” A qualifying military action refers to an air strike or a surface-to-surface missile strike, initiated by Iran, directed at Iraq. An air strike includes bombs, air-to-surface missiles, and air-launched drones. A surface-to-surface missile strike includes one-way attack drones and surface-to-surface missiles such as cruise or ballistic missiles. The following actions do not constitute a qualifying military action: Surface-to-air missile strikes; Small-arms fire; Ground incursions; Cyber operations; Naval gunfire and artillery fire; Howitzers, artillery pieces, mortars, and rocket artillery (e.g. MLRS systems); Minor surface-to-surface strikes, including short range loitering munitions, FPV drones, and ATGM strikes; Any threat, authorization, or announcement of force that has not been executed. Military action that consists primarily or exclusively of munitions that are intercepted before impact will still qualify if they constitute a qualifying military action during the specified timeframe; whether the munitions were intercepted, where the munitions landed, and whether damage resulted will not be considered. A military action will be considered directed at Iraq if it is directed at the terrestrial territory of Iraq, including any internal waters. Only military actions by Iranian forces explicitly claimed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, or confirmed to have originated from Iranian territory will count toward the resolution of this market. Attacks by proxy forces (i.e. Hezbollah, Houthis, etc.) will not count toward the resolution of this market. The occurrence, attribution, and timing of a qualifying military action will be primarily determined based on a consensus of information available from the resolution sources. Where multiple sources conflict regarding the occurrence, attribution, or timing of a relevant military action, this market will remain open until the earlier of: i) the confirmation of the occurrence, attribution, and timing of the action based on a consensus of information available from the resolution sources or ii) 3 full calendar days (AST) from the date of the first credibly reported evidence of the action. If this period would extend past the end date, this market will remain open to allow for 3 full calendar days to pass. At the end of the third calendar day, if conflicting reports remain, the incident will be adjudicated based on the totality of information available from the resolution sources at that time. No single statement, denial, or presentation of evidence will govern where it is contradicted by the totality of information. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the governments and militaries of Iran and Iraq and a consensus of credible reporting.

What the contract measures

Both markets come from one Polymarket event, "Will Iran target Iraq by...?" [1]. The rules say the market resolves "Yes" if Iran targets Iraq "through a qualifying military action between market creation and the listed date, Arabia Standard Time (AST)" [1]. A qualifying action must be an air strike or a surface-to-surface missile strike initiated by Iran and directed at Iraq's terrestrial territory [1]. Artillery, small-arms fire, cyber operations, threats that were never executed, and attacks by proxy forces are excluded [1]. Munitions intercepted before impact can still qualify [1].

The two markets differ only in their deadline. One is titled "Will Iran target Iraq by October 31, 2026?" with a listed end time of 2026-11-01T03:59:00.000Z. The other is titled "Will Iran target Iraq by October 22, 2026?" with a listed end time of 2026-10-23T03:59:00.000Z [1]. The rules define the deadline in AST, so readers should check how the title dates and the UTC end times line up before comparing windows.

Reading the snapshot

The saved prices were observed at 2026-10-18T00:00:06.191Z, and the source was retrieved at 2026-10-18T03:03:04.076Z [1]. They describe that moment only and are not live quotes.

  • October 31 market: Yes 0.88, No 0.12 [1]
  • October 22 market: Yes 0.86, No 0.14 [1]

These are snapshot prices, not executable quotes or verified probabilities. The evidence does not include volume, order book depth, or trader counts, so it cannot show how much liquidity sits behind either price. The two contracts cover different windows, so their prices should not be treated as an arbitrage signal. The evidence also does not explain why either price is where it is.

The coverage record lists 2 of 2 markets for this event, with partialSample set to false [1]. Even so, the sample warning states that the providers may not list every possible real-world outcome [1]. This sample covers only these two saved deadlines and should not be read as the full field of possible timeframes.

What remains uncertain

The rules allow resolution to be delayed. If sources conflict about whether an action occurred, its attribution, or its timing, the market stays open until the earlier of confirmation or three full calendar days (AST) after the first credibly reported evidence [1]. The rules also state that no single statement or denial governs where it is contradicted by the totality of information [1].

The evidence does not include any news about Iran or Iraq, any official statements, or any events after the observation time. Current status beyond the snapshot is therefore unknown.
