About This Event

This market will resolve to the temperature range that contains the highest temperature recorded by NOAA at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Station in degrees Celsius on 21 Oct '26. The resolution source for this market will be information from NOAA, specifically the highest reading under the "Temp" column for all times on this day, available here: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=zggg If NOAA data for the observation date is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, the Weather Underground Daily Observations table will be used as the resolution source. In the event that there is no data for the observation date by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, this market will resolve to the lowest bracket. To toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius, click the "Switch to Metric Units" button until the relevant table displays °C. This market will resolve once the first data point for the following date has been published on the resolution source, or by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, whichever comes first. The resolution source for this market measures temperatures to whole degrees Celsius (eg, 9°C). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. In the case that the Resolution Source publishes data, sufficient to settle a Market, that is clearly erroneous and the result of technical or operational error, or of unauthorized interference with the Resolution Source or its data, the Market may remain open for a period of up to seven (7) calendar days (ET) from the time of the original release, in anticipation of a correction by the Resolution Source. If the Resolution Source publishes a corrected value within that period, that value will be eligible for resolution. If no corrected value is published within that period, Polymarket will issue a Clarification to determine whether the originally published value may be eligible for resolution, or whether other action is required to preserve the orderly functioning of the Market. Revisions to temperatures recorded within this market's timeframe will be considered until the first datapoint for the following date has been published, after which any alterations will not be considered.

What the contract measures

This Polymarket event asks which temperature range contains the highest temperature recorded by NOAA at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Station in degrees Celsius on 21 Oct '26 [1]. The resolution source is the highest reading under the "Temp" column for all times on that day, and temperatures are measured to whole degrees Celsius [1]. If NOAA data is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET on the following day, the Weather Underground Daily Observations table is used. If no data exists for the observation date by then, the market resolves to the lowest bracket [1]. The rules also allow the market to stay open for up to seven calendar days if a clearly erroneous value is published and a correction may follow [1].

The page lists an end time of 2026-10-21T12:00:00.000Z [1]. The rules, however, tie resolution to the first data point for the following date or the 11:59 PM ET deadline, whichever comes first [1]. The listed end time is a provider field, not a confirmed moment when the outcome becomes known.

Reading the snapshot

The snapshot was observed at 2026-10-19T06:00:06.076Z and retrieved at 2026-10-19T06:08:57.092Z [1]. These are past readings that show what the provider reported at those times, not current prices. All 11 saved markets for this event are included, and the sample is not flagged as partial [1]. Yes prices range from 0.006 for "38°C or higher" to 0.3 for 33°C, with 34°C and 35°C each at 0.285 [1]. The "28°C or below" and 29°C brackets each show 0.0205 [1].

These figures are quoted snapshot prices, not executable quotes or verified probabilities. The Yes prices across the 11 brackets add up to roughly 1.71, so they do not form a single consistent probability distribution. Only one platform appears, so no cross-platform comparison is made. The evidence does not explain why any bracket is priced where it is.

What remains uncertain

The evidence does not show current prices, trading volume, liquidity, or the number of participants. The sample covers this saved provider event and does not establish that every possible temperature bracket is listed. The actual recorded temperature for 21 October is not in the evidence, so no outcome is known. Readers comparing this contract with a differently worded temperature market should check the resolution source, rounding rules, fallback provisions, and listed close times, since these can differ.

Overview

This is a daily weather contract on Polymarket asking for the highest temperature in Guangzhou on October 21, 2026, measured at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The event is split into separate brackets, each its own yes or no market. The saved event includes temperature brackets from 28°C or below through 38°C or higher [1]. The saved event contains 11 markets, all of which were included in the sample, so the listed brackets are the full set captured in that provider event [1]. The contract settles on a single number. It resolves to the temperature range containing the highest temperature recorded by NOAA at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Station, in whole degrees Celsius, for the observation date [1]. Because the rules specify whole degrees, a reading is rounded to the precision the resolution source publishes, and that is the level used to settle each bracket [1]. The rules also name a fallback. If NOAA data for the observation date is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET on the following day, the Weather Underground Daily Observations table is used instead. If no data exists for the observation date by that same deadline, the market resolves to the lowest bracket [1]. The market resolves once the first data point for the following date is published on the resolution source, or by 11:59 PM ET on the following day, whichever comes first [1]. The rules also address data errors. If the resolution source publishes clearly erroneous data caused by technical or operational error, or by unauthorized interference, the market may stay open for up to seven calendar days (ET) from the original release so a correction can be published. If no correction appears in that window, Polymarket may issue a Clarification [1]. Revisions to recorded temperatures are considered only until the first data point for the following date is published [1]. The provider event lists an end time of 2026-10-21T12:00:00Z [1]. This is a field in the contract data. It is not an announced event or a statement about when the weather record will be finalized, and the resolution rules above control how settlement actually happens. The prices in this article are a snapshot observed at 2026-10-19T06:00:06Z. In that snapshot, the highest Yes price was 0.3 for the 33°C bracket, followed by 0.285 for 34°C and 35°C, and 0.245 for 32°C [1]. The lowest bracket, 28°C or below, had a Yes price of 0.0205, and 38°C or higher had 0.006 [1]. These are observed prices at one time, not executable quotes, and they are not verified probabilities of the temperature outcome. Different brackets in the same event are not an arbitrage opportunity simply because their prices differ.

Historical Context

The supplied background on Guangzhou is general city information and does not cover this contract or its weather record. Guangzhou, also known as Canton, is described as the capital and largest city of Guangdong in southern China, located on the Pearl River. The city has a history of over 2,200 years and was a major terminus of the Silk Road [2]. No historical temperature records or prior versions of this contract were supplied.

Why It Matters

The contract measures the highest whole-degree Celsius temperature recorded at one airport station on one date, as reported by a named data source [1]. Each bracket asks whether that single figure falls within a specific range. Because the resolution depends on a particular station, a particular data table, and a particular deadline, a reader needs the rules as well as the price to understand what the market is tracking [1]. The Guangzhou background shows the city's location and standing in southern China, but it does not add information about how the contract resolves [2].

Snapshot context

The latest published provider snapshot for this topic was observed on 2026-10-19 at 06:00 UTC. It contains listings from Polymarket. Market descriptions and listed closing times define the contracts; they do not establish that the real-world outcome has occurred. This article does not include a separately verified news update. Frequently Asked Questions

What single value decides which bracket resolves?

The bracket that contains the highest temperature recorded by NOAA at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Station, in whole degrees Celsius, for October 21, 2026 [1].

What happens if NOAA data is missing?

The Weather Underground Daily Observations table is used if NOAA data is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date. If no data exists for the observation date by that time, the market resolves to the lowest bracket [1].

When does the market resolve?

It resolves once the first data point for the following date is published on the resolution source, or by 11:59 PM ET on the day following the observation date, whichever comes first [1].

Are the listed prices probabilities?

The rules and the saved data describe the prices as market snapshots. They are observed at a single time and are not executable quotes or verified probabilities of the temperature outcome [1].

Can a recorded temperature be revised after settlement?

Revisions are considered until the first data point for the following date is published. After that, alterations are not considered. Clearly erroneous data may keep a market open for up to seven calendar days (ET) for a correction [1].
