About This Event
This market will resolve to "Yes" if a statewide recount of any qualifying election is initiated by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Qualifying elections are the U.S. Senate elections (including special elections) and gubernatorial elections held in any U.S. state on November 3, 2026, and any runoff of one of those elections. Recounts of primaries, other offices, and ballot questions will not qualify. Only recounts that are automatically triggered by law, ordered by election officials or a court on their own initiative or in an election contest, or requested by one of the two candidates who received the most votes in that election (or by their campaign or political party on their behalf) will qualify. Recounts requested only by other candidates, voters, or other parties will not qualify. A recount is initiated once election authorities or a court order, announce, or begin it. A recount request or petition alone will not qualify. A recount that is waived or withdrawn before any ballots are re-tallied will not qualify; a recount that begins and is later halted will still qualify. Any full statewide re-tally of the ballots cast in a qualifying election, whether conducted by hand or machine, will count, even if officially described as an audit or recanvass. Partial recounts, such as the 2020 Wisconsin recount, which only included Milwaukee and Dane counties, recounts of only certain types of ballots, and sample-based or routine audits will not count. If recounts are ordered county by county or in stages, a statewide recount will be considered initiated once recounts covering all ballots cast in that election have been ordered. Reviews that check reported totals, machine tapes, or memory devices without re-tallying ballots will not qualify. If, for every qualifying election, every deadline to request a recount or file an election contest has passed, no automatic recount is required, and no recount request or court proceeding that could lead to a statewide recount is pending, this market may resolve to "No". The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the relevant state and local election authorities and any court that orders a recount; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
