About This Event

This market will resolve to "Yes" if Chuck Edwards' departure as a member of the United States House of Representatives is officially announced by December 31, 2026 11:59PM ET. Otherwise it will resolve to "No". The departure will be considered to be announced when Chuck Edwards, the United States House of Representatives, or their authorized representatives publicly and definitively announce that Chuck Edwards has ceased or will cease to hold the position of US Representative from North Carolina's 11th Congressional District. Such an announcement will qualify regardless of when the specified person formally leaves the position. Announcements of the specified person’s resignation, removal, or departure through other means all qualify. The following do not qualify as public and definitive announcements: statements that the specified person is considering or open to departing; conditional statements that the specified person will depart only if specified conditions are met; the announcement of an offer of resignation that requires acceptance and remains pending or has been refused; media reports that the specified person plans to depart; statements made in sarcasm or jest; and statements by persons other than the specified person, the relevant authority governing the specified position, or their respective authorized representatives. Only announcements which are framed as announcing a departure intended to be effective within 18 months of the date of the announcement will qualify (e.g., neither “I will leave office in 2 years,” nor “I will not be in office forever,” would qualify). Announcements of temporary leaves of absence, dated suspensions, indefinite suspensions, administrative leaves, or other temporary changes to the specified person’s duties in the specified position do not qualify. If the specified person holds the specified position on a predefined term with a scheduled end date, only announcements that they will depart the position prior to the scheduled end of their term qualify. If the specified person formally ceases to hold the specified position before the specified date without a qualifying announcement, the market will resolve to "Yes" if major news agencies of record confirm the departure by the specified date. The resolution source for this market will be official information from Chuck Edwards and the U.S. government; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

This analysis is awaiting a background update, so its prices may be older than the odds above.

What the contract measures

The contract asks whether Chuck Edwards' departure as a member of the United States House of Representatives will be officially announced by December 31, 2026 11:59PM ET [1]. It resolves "Yes" if that announcement occurs and "No" otherwise [1]. The announcement must be public and definitive. The rules state that "statements that the specified person is considering or open to departing" and "media reports that the specified person plans to depart" do not qualify [1]. Temporary leaves of absence and administrative leaves also do not qualify [1].

The rules include a fallback. If Edwards formally ceases to hold the seat without a qualifying announcement, the market resolves "Yes" if "major news agencies of record confirm the departure by the specified date" [1]. The listed end time is 2027-01-01T04:59:00.000Z [1], which matches the 11:59 PM ET deadline in the rules.

Reading the snapshot

The saved record shows one contract with a Yes price of 0.2 and a No price of 0.8 [1]. The record was observed at 2026-10-16T00:00:06Z and retrieved at 2026-10-16T00:47:06Z [1]. It describes the provider's state at those times and does not establish current conditions. These prices are snapshot values, not executable quotes, and they are not verified probabilities.

The coverage record lists one total market, one included market, and no partial sample flag [1]. This is the only saved market for this event, so there are no other outcomes to compare within the sample. The record includes no trading volume and no count of traders, so it says nothing about liquidity or how many participants hold each view.

What remains uncertain

The supplied evidence does not explain why the price sits at its current level. It contains no recent news about Edwards or the House seat. It also does not show whether any qualifying announcement or confirmed departure has occurred after the observation time.

Readers comparing this contract with others should check the wording closely. A similar question may use different announcement standards, fallback rules, or deadlines. A price difference between contracts that are not identical does not by itself indicate an opportunity.

Overview

This PredictPedia entry covers a Polymarket contract asking whether Chuck Edwards will be out as a U.S. Representative before December 31, 2026. The contract is binary, with a "Yes" outcome and a "No" outcome. It resolves to "Yes" if Edwards' departure as a member of the United States House of Representatives is officially announced by December 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET, and to "No" otherwise [1]. The rules describe the position as U.S. Representative from North Carolina's 11th Congressional District [1]. The contract turns on the wording of the announcement, not only on whether Edwards actually leaves office. A departure counts as announced when Edwards, the House, or their authorized representatives publicly and definitively state that he has ceased or will cease to hold the seat. The announcement qualifies even if the formal departure date comes later [1]. The rules also say that an announcement framed as a departure must be intended to take effect within 18 months of the announcement [1]. Several kinds of statements do not qualify. These include statements that someone is considering or open to leaving, conditional statements, an offer of resignation that still requires acceptance or has been refused, media reports of a plan to depart, sarcasm or jest, and statements by people other than the officeholder, the governing authority, or their authorized representatives. Temporary leaves, suspensions, administrative leaves, and other temporary changes to duties also do not qualify [1]. If Edwards' term has a scheduled end date, only an announcement that he will leave before that end date qualifies [1]. The rules include a fallback. If Edwards formally ceases to hold the seat before the deadline without a qualifying announcement, the contract resolves to "Yes" if major news agencies of record confirm the departure by the deadline [1]. The stated resolution source is official information from Edwards and the U.S. government, although a consensus of credible reporting may also be used [1]. The contract's listed end time is January 1, 2027 at 04:59 UTC [1]. That timestamp is the provider's listed close time. The resolution standard in the rules is the December 31, 2026 11:59 PM ET deadline. The date in the rules is a deadline for qualifying events and does not indicate that any departure has been announced or scheduled. The contract appears within a broader election period. The 2026 U.S. House elections are scheduled for November 3, 2026, covering all 435 congressional districts [2]. The 2026 midterms also include all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats, which is the wider political setting for the contract [3]. These sources describe the election calendar only. They do not establish whether Edwards is a candidate, whether he plans to leave, or how the election will affect his seat.

Historical Context

The supplied background on the broader political calendar is limited to the scheduling of the 2026 elections. The 2026 House elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026, as part of the midterms during President Donald Trump's second nonconsecutive term [2]. Thirty-five of the 100 Senate seats and all 435 House seats are contested in these elections, which will determine the 120th Congress [3]. No supplied source describes Edwards' career, prior departures, or the history of this specific seat.

Why It Matters

The contract measures whether a qualifying public announcement that Chuck Edwards will leave his House seat is made by the deadline, or whether his formal departure is confirmed by major news agencies in the fallback case [1]. Because the rules exclude considerations, conditional offers, leaves of absence, and media reports of plans, the contract is narrower than a general question about whether Edwards will stop serving. Traders and readers therefore need to read the qualifying language closely. The contract's price reflects market activity around that specific wording, and it is not a verified probability that Edwards will leave office.

Snapshot context

The latest published provider snapshot for this topic was observed on 2026-10-16 at 00:00 UTC. It contains listings from Polymarket. Market descriptions and listed closing times define the contracts; they do not establish that the real-world outcome has occurred. This article does not include a separately verified news update. Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a qualifying announcement?

A qualifying announcement is a public and definitive statement by Chuck Edwards, the U.S. House of Representatives, or their authorized representatives that he has ceased or will cease to be a representative. The departure must be intended to take effect within 18 months of the announcement [1].

Would a temporary leave of absence resolve the contract?

No. Temporary leaves of absence, dated or indefinite suspensions, administrative leaves, and other temporary changes to duties do not qualify under the rules [1].

Does a resignation offer that has not been accepted count?

No. An announced offer of resignation that requires acceptance and remains pending, or that has been refused, does not qualify [1].

What happens if Edwards leaves office without a qualifying announcement?

If he formally ceases to hold the seat before the deadline without a qualifying announcement, the contract resolves to "Yes" if major news agencies of record confirm the departure by the deadline [1].
