About This Event
This market will resolve according to the number of seats in the US House of Representatives won by the Democratic Party in Iowa in the 2026 United States midterm election. All Iowa US House of Representatives elections held as part of the 2026 United States midterm election that elect voting members and determine representation in the upcoming 120th congress are included. Special elections to fill a vacancy for the remainder of an unexpired term are not included, whether or not held concurrently with the 2026 United States midterm election. Runoffs for qualifying elections will determine attribution of the relevant seat. Seats are attributed to the party under which the member was elected. If a member-elect changes party affiliation or vacates their seat after the date of the 2026 United States midterm election, the seat is attributed to the party under which the member was elected. Members of the House elected as independents who formally caucus, or who announce their intent to caucus, with a party prior to the date of the 2026 United States midterm election are included in that party’s count. If the caucus decisions of relevant members of the US House of Representatives elected as independents cannot be determined as of the date of the 2026 United States midterm election, this market may remain open until the earlier of (i) an announcement from the relevant members of their intents to caucus, or (ii) January 4th, 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year. If no such announcement is made by January 4th, 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year, the member will not count towards the seat count of any party. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from relevant state electoral authorities, the United States Congress, and a consensus of credible reporting.

What the contract measures
This event asks how many U.S. House seats in Iowa the Democratic Party will win in the 2026 midterm election. Each listed market covers one exact count (0 through 4 seats) and resolves on the number of seats the Democratic Party wins in Iowa [1]. The rules count only regular elections for Iowa House seats. Special elections to fill vacancies are excluded, and runoffs for qualifying elections determine which party gets the seat [1].
The rules also set attribution policies. Seats go to the party under which the member was elected, even if that member later changes party or vacates the seat [1]. Independents count toward a party only if they formally caucus, or announce an intent to caucus, with that party before Election Day. If that cannot be determined, the market may stay open until an announcement is made or until "January 4th, 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year," after which unresolved independents count for no party [1]. The stated resolution sources are state electoral authorities, the U.S. Congress, and "a consensus of credible reporting" [1].
Reading the snapshot
The provider observed these prices at 2026-10-15T21:00:05.939Z, and the material was retrieved at 2026-10-15T22:00:39.914Z [1]. These are snapshot values, not current or executable quotes. The Yes prices were 0.495 for exactly 3 seats, 0.26 for exactly 2, 0.1215 for exactly 1, 0.0725 for exactly 0, and 0.006 for exactly 4 [1].
The sample includes all five saved markets for this provider event, and the coverage record marks it as not partial [1]. The sample warning still says this does not establish that the provider lists every possible outcome [1]. The five Yes prices sum to 0.955 in this snapshot. That gap does not show an arbitrage opportunity, since the snapshot is not an executable quote and the markets may not cover every outcome.
Volume is not included in this interpretation, and it should not be read as liquidity or trader count.
What remains uncertain
The listed end time is 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. This is a contract closing time, not a confirmed election result or resolution date. The evidence does not show when or how the count will be finalized, and it does not report any results. Independent-caucus questions could keep the market open until the rule's January deadline [1].
Because the snapshot is from October 15, 2026, prices may have changed. Readers should check the provider for current values before drawing conclusions.

Overview
This PredictPedia contract asks how many seats in the U.S. House of Representatives the Democratic Party will win in Iowa in the 2026 United States midterm election. The saved event includes five separate contracts, one for each of the outcomes of exactly 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 Democratic seats. The listed end time for the event is 2026-11-04T04:59:00.000Z [1]. That timestamp is the listed end time in the contract's data, not an announced election or results date, and the contract's own rules govern how resolution works. The contract's rules define the count narrowly. It covers all Iowa U.S. House elections held as part of the 2026 midterm that elect voting members to the 120th Congress [1]. Special elections to fill a vacancy for the remainder of an unexpired term are excluded, even if they are held on the same day as the midterm [1]. If a qualifying election requires a runoff, the runoff result determines which party receives the seat [1]. Seats are credited to the party under which a member was elected. If a member-elect changes party affiliation or leaves office after Election Day, the seat still counts for the party on the ballot [1]. Independents who formally caucus, or announce an intent to caucus, with a party before Election Day are counted for that party [1]. If an independent's caucus position cannot be determined by Election Day, the market may stay open until the earlier of an announcement from that member or January 4 at 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year. If no announcement is made by that deadline, the member counts toward no party's total [1]. The rules name official information from relevant state electoral authorities, the United States Congress, and a consensus of credible reporting as the resolution sources [1]. Because the rules allow for runoffs and caucus decisions, the final resolution can depend on events after the general election day.
Historical Context
The Iowa contract concerns a single state's House delegation, but the broader midterm context is documented in background sources. A Wikipedia article on the 2018 United States elections describes a midterm held on November 6, 2018, in which all 435 House seats were contested and the Democratic Party won control of the House [3]. That article also describes the election as one where Democrats gained governorships and state legislative chambers, and it characterizes the result as a blue wave election [3]. This is historical background only. It does not describe the 2026 Iowa race or current results. The Wikipedia article on the 2026 Senate election in Iowa is a separate contest from the House seat count. It states that the Senate election will be held on November 3, 2026, and names the party nominees as reported in that article [2]. Those Senate details do not determine the number of Iowa House seats that Democrats win, and the article's content is not a current status check.
Why It Matters
The contract measures how many of Iowa's U.S. House seats are won by Democrats in the 2026 midterm, counting only general-election seats and applying the party attribution rules described above [1]. Its outcomes are mutually exclusive counts, so each contract asks whether the final Democratic seat total will match one specific number. The rules are notable for their treatment of edge cases: runoffs, special elections, party switches after Election Day, and undetermined independent caucus positions each affect how a seat is counted [1]. Understanding these rules is necessary before interpreting any contract price. A seat won by an independent who later caucuses with a party may count differently from one that is decided on Election Day. A special election held the same day is excluded entirely. These distinctions mean that the number reported in news coverage on election night may not match the number the contract resolves on, especially where a runoff or caucus decision is pending [1].
Snapshot context
The latest published provider snapshot for this topic was observed on 2026-10-15 at 21:00 UTC. It contains listings from Polymarket. Market descriptions and listed closing times define the contracts; they do not establish that the real-world outcome has occurred. This article does not include a separately verified news update. [1]
Frequently Asked Questions
Which seats does this contract count?
It counts seats in the U.S. House of Representatives from Iowa won by the Democratic Party in the 2026 United States midterm election. Special elections to fill an unexpired term are excluded, even when held alongside the midterm [1].
How are runoffs handled?
Runoffs for qualifying elections determine the attribution of the relevant seat [1].
What happens if a member-elect switches parties after Election Day?
The seat is attributed to the party under which the member was elected, even if the member changes party affiliation or vacates the seat after the midterm [1].
What if an independent's caucus position is unclear?
The market may remain open until the earlier of an announcement from the member about caucusing or January 4 at 11:59 PM ET of the following calendar year. If no announcement is made by then, the member does not count toward any party's seat total [1].
Does the listed end time mean the election date?
No. The listed end time is a contract data field, and the resolution depends on the contract rules, including the treatment of runoffs and caucus decisions [1]. The Wikipedia article on the separate Iowa Senate race states that election is scheduled for November 3, 2026 [2], but that is a different contest.
