About This Event

This market will resolve to "Yes" if OpenAI's ChatGPT experiences any incident classified as 'Partial/Full Outage' between market creation and the specified calendar day (ET). Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. ChatGPT will be considered to have experienced a qualifying incident on the specified day if the OpenAI Status Page for ChatGPT (status.openai.com) displays that day’s status box as a shade of red indicating Partial/Full Outage once it is finalized. (green indicates "No incidents", yellow indicates "Degraded performance"). A day will be considered finalized once the following day’s status box is added on the Status Page. Only incidents listing ChatGPT under 'Affected components' will be considered. Incidents labeled as affecting 'APIs,' 'Codex,' 'FedRamp,' or 'Ads Platform,' but not ChatGPT, will have no bearing on the resolution of this market. This market will remain open until the specified day’s status box is finalized and all incidents that began during the specified date have been resolved. Revisions that change an incident’s impact classification to or from 'Partial/Full Outage' will be considered if the revision is published before the specified day’s status box is finalized or before all incidents that began during the specified date have been resolved. This market will resolve once the specified day’s status box is finalized, provided no incident that began during the specified date is ongoing. In case of an ongoing incident the market will remain open until the incident is marked as “Resolved” and all relevant data has been released. If the incident in question is not resolved or all relevant data has not been released by the end of the seventh day after the specified date, this market will resolve based on the data available at that time. The primary resolution source for this market will be official system status information published by OpenAI on status.openai.com; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

This analysis is awaiting a background update, so its prices may be older than the odds above.

What the contract measures

The saved event asks whether OpenAI's ChatGPT will experience a qualifying incident between market creation and a specified calendar day in Eastern Time [1]. A day qualifies if the OpenAI Status Page shows that day's status box as a shade of red indicating Partial/Full Outage once it is finalized [1]. Only incidents listing ChatGPT under 'Affected components' count. Incidents labeled as affecting 'APIs,' 'Codex,' 'FedRamp,' or 'Ads Platform,' but not ChatGPT, will have no bearing on resolution [1]. The primary resolution source is official status information on status.openai.com, though a consensus of credible reporting may also be used [1].

The two saved markets differ in their deadline wording. One is titled "ChatGPT Outage by October 31, 2026?" and the other "ChatGPT Outage by November 15, 2026?" [1]. Their listed end times are 2026-11-01T03:59:00.000Z and 2026-11-16T04:59:00.000Z [1]. The rules say a day's status box must be finalized before resolution, so the listed end time is a provider field rather than a guaranteed resolution moment.

Reading the snapshot

The provider observation time is 2026-10-29T00:00:05.980Z, and the source was retrieved at 2026-10-29T06:02:32.909Z [1]. The prices below describe that observed snapshot, not current trading.

  • October 31 market: Yes 0.57, No 0.43 [1].
  • November 15 market: Yes 0.65, No 0.35 [1].

Each market is a separate binary contract. The higher Yes price on the later deadline is a snapshot observation; the evidence does not explain it. These prices are not executable quotes or verified probabilities. The snapshot includes no volume or trader counts, so it says nothing about liquidity or how many people hold each view. The two contracts also have different deadlines and resolution windows, so their differing prices do not by themselves indicate an arbitrage opportunity.

What remains uncertain

Both markets for this event are included, and the sample is not marked as partial [1]. That does not establish that the provider lists every possible outcome for this question. Resolution may take longer than the listed end time suggests. An ongoing incident keeps a market open until it is marked "Resolved" and all relevant data is released. If that has not happened by the end of the seventh day after the specified date, resolution uses the data then available [1]. Revisions to an incident's impact classification count only if published before the day's status box is finalized or before incidents starting that day are resolved [1]. The supplied evidence contains no status information beyond this snapshot.

Overview

PredictPedia's ChatGPT outage event asks whether OpenAI's ChatGPT service will experience a qualifying outage by a set date. ChatGPT is a generative AI chatbot developed by OpenAI that uses large language models to generate text, speech, and images in response to user prompts [2]. Because the product is a live online service, its operational reliability can be tracked through a public status page, and the contract is built around that record. The contract resolves to "Yes" if OpenAI's ChatGPT experiences any incident classified as 'Partial/Full Outage' between market creation and the specified calendar day (ET). Otherwise it resolves to "No" [1]. The qualifying test is tied to the OpenAI Status Page for ChatGPT at status.openai.com. A day counts as a qualifying incident if that day's status box is shaded red for Partial/Full Outage once it is finalized. Green indicates no incidents and yellow indicates degraded performance [1]. The contract is narrower than a general question about whether something went wrong. Only incidents that list ChatGPT under 'Affected components' are considered. Incidents labeled as affecting APIs, Codex, FedRamp, or Ads Platform, but not ChatGPT, have no bearing on resolution [1]. Revisions that change an incident's impact classification to or from Partial/Full Outage count only if they are published before the day's status box is finalized or before all incidents starting that day are resolved [1]. Timing rules matter for the resolution date. A day is finalized once the following day's status box is added to the Status Page. The market remains open until the specified day's box is finalized and any incident that began that day has been resolved. If an incident is ongoing, the market stays open until it is marked Resolved and relevant data is released. If that has not happened by the end of the seventh day after the specified date, the market resolves based on the data available at that time [1]. The listed end times for the saved markets are recorded in the contract data and should be read as the provider's listed timing, not as an announced event. The saved event includes two markets with different deadlines, one for outages by October 31, 2026 and one for outages by November 15, 2026. Each has its own listed end time and status [1]. Because the markets cover different windows, they should not be read as a ranking of the same question at different points in time. The saved sample includes all markets the provider listed for this event, but the provider does not claim that this is every possible framing of the question. The primary resolution source is official system status information published by OpenAI on status.openai.com. A consensus of credible reporting may also be used [1].

Historical Context

ChatGPT was originally released on November 30, 2022, and it accelerated the ongoing AI boom, a period marked by rapid investment and public attention toward artificial intelligence [2]. This background explains why the product is widely used, but the supplied sources do not describe its outage history or any specific past incidents.

Why It Matters

The contract measures whether OpenAI's status page records a qualifying ChatGPT incident within a defined window. It is a question about a public, rule-based status record rather than about the underlying cause of any problem. The resolution depends on the red status shading for Partial/Full Outage, the listing of ChatGPT as an affected component, and the finalization of the daily status box [1]. Traders reading the contract should focus on those specific criteria, since an incident affecting only other OpenAI products would not count [1].

Snapshot context

The latest published provider snapshot for this topic was observed on 2026-10-29 at 00:00 UTC. It contains listings from Polymarket. Market descriptions and listed closing times define the contracts; they do not establish that the real-world outcome has occurred. This article does not include a separately verified news update. Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a qualifying outage for this market?

A day qualifies if the OpenAI Status Page for ChatGPT shows that day's status box as red for Partial/Full Outage once it is finalized. Only incidents listing ChatGPT under affected components are considered [1].

Do API or Codex incidents count?

No, not on their own. Incidents labeled as affecting APIs, Codex, FedRamp, or Ads Platform, but not ChatGPT, have no bearing on resolution [1].

When is a day's status considered final?

A day is finalized once the following day's status box is added to the Status Page [1].

What happens if an incident is still ongoing at the deadline?

The market stays open until the incident is marked Resolved and relevant data is released. If that has not happened by the end of the seventh day after the specified date, the market resolves based on the data available at that time [1].

Is a status record the only possible source?

The primary source is official OpenAI status information at status.openai.com. The contract also says a consensus of credible reporting may be used [1].
